Baixa-Mar First Photobook Award

Once a year the publisher picks a first book and produces it in full. No entry fee, no financial contribution from the author.

  • Who can enter

    Anyone who has not yet published an authored photobook, from any country, with work connected to the Portuguese-speaking Black Atlantic.

  • What to send

    A dummy as PDF (a scanned maquette is fine), 15 lines about the project and a short biography. Nothing else.

  • Calendar

    Call in March, result in August, book the following year.

  • The prize

    Full production in the Baixa-Mar collection, 30 author copies, 10% of the cover price on sales and a launch in Salvador.

  • Jury

    Four names: a book designer, a curator, an author from outside Bahia and an international editor. Announced with the call.

The first call opens in March 2027.
